Pavel Kolpakov is a professional composer based in Kyiv. Born in 1960 in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, he began playing the violin at a young age and studied at a music school and at Zaporizhia Music College. He started studying at the Violin Department of the Kyiv Conservatory (now Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine) in 1983 and soon began to take composition lessons from professor Yakov Gubanov. In 1987 he began studying at the Composition Department of the Kyiv Conservatory and graduated in 1991.

Pavel Kolpakov worked as a composer with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and gave lectures on theory of music and culture in the Kyiv Gliere Music College and in the National Academy of Government Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts. Since 2oo6 he is a member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine. In 2013 Pavel Kolpakov created the Contemporary Music Festival Sonor Continuus, with concerts held in the Concert Hall at the National Union of Composers of Ukraine along with other chamber halls in Kyiv.

Pavel Kolpakov’s symphonic compositions were performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and were recorded by the National Radio Company of Ukraine. His chamber music sounds in a number of Kyiv’s musical halls and on international festivals such as the Kyiv Music Fest, the Musical Premieres of the Season and GogolFest.

Pavel Kolpakov collaborates with many prominent musicians who perform his chamber compositions. Among them are Jelizawieta Lipitiuk, Anna Koval (soprano), Tatiana Piminova (mezzo soprano), Igor Iermak (flute), Alexander Avramenko, Ustym Melnyk, Artem Shestovskyi (clarinet), Alexander Koshelev (oboe), Roman Fotuima (saxophone), Yanzhima Morozova (violin), Janna Marchinska (cello), Roman Lopatynskyi, Roman Repka, Mykola Chykarenko, Dmytro Choni (piano).
