Pavel Kolpakov is a classical composer. Born in 1960, he began playing the violin at a young age and studied at children's music school and at the Mayboroda Music College in his native city, Zaporizhia, Ukraine. He started his training at the violin department of the Kyiv State P.I.Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 1983 and soon began to take composition lessons from professor Yakov Gubanov. In 1987 he continued studying at the composition department and graduated from it in 1991. Pavel gave lectures on theory of music and culture in the Kyiv R.Gliere Music College and in the National Academy of Government Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts, worked as a composer with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
For the last ten years Pavel is a free composer. His symphonic compositions were performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, his chamber music sounds in a number of Kyiv's musical halls and on international festivals such as the Kyiv-Music-Fest and the Musical Premieres of the Season.
In 2013 Pavel Kolpakov set up the year-round Chamber Music Festival Sonor Continuus, its concerts are held every month with assistance from the National Union of Composers of Ukraine. Also Pavel Kolpakov is a founder and the artistic director of the Sonor Continuus Ensemble, which perform classical music of different centuries and contemporary chamber music.
